What Is A Spray Tan?
A spray tan is a professional treatment where a fine mist of tanning solution is applied evenly to the skin to create a beautiful, bronzed glow.
The active ingredient in most tanning solutions is DHA (Dihydroxyacetone), which reacts with the outer layer of your skin to create a temporary tan. As your skin naturally exfoliates itself, your tan will gradually fade.
Unlike sunbathing or sunbeds, a spray tan gives you the appearance of a healthy glow without exposing your skin to UV rays.

Will My Spray Tan Look Orange?
This is one of the most common questions I get asked, especially from clients having their first spray tan.
The good news is that modern spray tanning has come a long way. Especially in Ireland we’re so lucky with the amount of Irish tanning brands in recent years formulated to compliment Irish skin tones. Professional tanning solutions are designed to complement your natural skin tone and create a much more realistic, sun kissed finish.
The key to a beautiful spray tan is choosing the right shade for you. Your skin tone, a natural colouring, the occasion you’re tanning for and your personal preference all play a part.
During your appointment, I will guide you through your options and help you choose a colour that you’ll feel comfortable and confident wearing.
How Long Does a Spray Tan Last?
A professional spray tan will usually last around 7-10 days, depending on your skin type, lifestyle and how well you look after it.
Your tan may fade quicker if you:
Exfoliate frequently
Take long hot baths or showers
Swim regularly
Use harsh skincare products
Don’t moisturise your skin
To get the most from your tan, good preparation and aftercare is essential.
A well looked after spray tan should fade gradually and evenly, leaving your skin looking naturally glowing.
How Should I Prepare For My Spray Tan?
Preparation is one of the most important steps in achieving a flawless result. From the moment you make your spray tan appointment start preparing your skin. The better prepared your skin, the better it will apply and last. Even if your wedding is 6 months out start your prep today.
Before your appointment, I recommend:
Exfoliation
Gently exfoliate your skin the day before your appointment, paying particular attention to areas such as elbows, knees, ankles and any dry areas.
Hair Removal
If you shave or wax, its best to do this at least 24 hours before your spray tan to allow your skin time to settle.
Arrive with clean skin
On the day of your appointment, avoid applying:
Body moisturiser
Perfume
Deodrant
Oils
Make up (where possible)
These products can create a barrier and affect how evenly your tan develops. The night before your tan I wouIdnt even apply moisturiser because they’re so rich and oily now I can tell from applying the tan that there is a film even 24 hours later. I recommend if you have applied any of the above products even the night before to have a quick shower early on the morning of your appointment to ensure there is nothing that will block the tan from developing.

What Happens During a Spray Tan Appointment?
If you’ve never had a spray tan before, there is no need to feel nervous.
When you arrive at Haus of Beauty, I will talk you through the process, answer any questions and discuss the type of colour you’re hoping to achieve.

The spray tan itself is a quick treatment, and I’ll make sure you leave with clear instructions on how to care for your tan while it develops.

Spray Tan Aftercare Tips
Looking after your skin after your spray tan will help your colour last and fade more evenly.
My top aftercare tips are:
Follow the recommended shower time given at your appointment
Moisturise your skin daily
Avoid harsh exfoliating products
Pat your skin dry after shower instead of rubbing
Avoid long hot baths
Keep your skin hydrated
If you must shave post spray tan ensure you’re using a shaving foam
Remember that a spray tan is a cosmetic glow and does not protect your skin from the sun, so always wear SPF when outdoors.
Common Spray Tan Questions
Can I shower straight after my spray tan?
Your shower timing will depend on the tanning solution used and the depth of colour you’re looking to achieve. I will advise you on exactly when tovrinse after your appointment.
Can I exercise after getting a spray tan?
It’s best to avoid exercise until after your first rinse, as sweat can affect the way your tan develops.
Can I get a spray tan before going on holiday?
Absolutely. Many clients love having their spray tan before a holiday so they arrive feeling confident and glowing from the moment they arrive.
How far before an event should I book my spray tan?
This depends on the occasion, but I usually recommend 2 days before the event. This allows the colour to fully develop and settle beautifully.
